The FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certifies forests that are sustainably managed, and operated in a rational way.

Preservation of biodiversity, or protecting the rights of indigenous peoples are taken into account in the management of these forests.

FSC® certification is based on 10 principles, which are the values of sustainable development:

  • Compliance with laws in force in the country, international treaties, and the principles of FSC®. The right of ownership and use of forest resources must be clear and defined in legal acts.
  • Indigenous people should enjoy their legal rights relating to the possession, use and management of their land, which must be respected.
  • The well-being of forest workers and local communities must be strengthened by the forest management operations.
  • The forest management operation must use wisely the products and services to ensure economic viability and environmental and social benefits.
  • Biodiversity, water resources, ecosystems, soils ... must be preserved, and the ecological function and integrity of the forest.
  • The plan of forest management must be implemented and updated, its goals must be clear and the means implemented.
  • The monitoring of forest management must be performed to assess its effects on forest communities, forest products, production.
  • Forests of high ecological value should be maintained or improved.
  • Plantations and afforestation should be planned and managed to enable the restoration of forests.
  • The FSC® timber is in the fight against forest degradation and deforestation, the extent of which on a global scale is catastrophic, especially for the preservation of biodiversity.

For eco-consumers, buying furniture or FSC® certified products, is making sure that the wood comes from sustainably managed forests, and have a responsible consumer.

Recycling area

In a sustainable development approach, Jacob Holm Industries has introduced a new procedure regarding the management of waste minimizing them at the source.

The target is to optimize the organization of waste materials within the company, and to demonstrate how to gain efficiency through analysis and reflection on the flow of waste. It is also to increase awareness and motivation of staff, and optimize the choice and establishment of monitoring indicators.
